Day 109 - April 19, 2010

Today was the 114th running of the Boston Marathon, and we went up to watch my mom run the race. Turns out that mass transit in the Boston area on a day like today (a holiday for people in MA, also the marathon, and a Red Sox home game) is really difficult to use. The original parking lot was packed, and by the time we even got close to the city, we didn't think we'd get to the spot on the route we wanted to get to. Turns out that the Boston Marathon website allows you to track runners and see what their progress and projected finish time is. Mom was cruising, and with under 10 miles to go, was projecting to finish under 4 hours, which would be a personal best! We made our way to the finish line, and checked her stats - she finished in a time of 3:58:24, which bested her personal record by 3 minutes! In the 6 years she's been running marathons, this is the first time she's finished in under 4 hours - and the best part? She qualified for Boston again next year! We're all proud of you Mom! :)

Day 51 - February 20, 2010

I promised my mom ages ago when she first knew she was going to be doing the penguin plunge and when she found out I was doing this daily blog thing that she could be the picture of the day on the Penguin Plunge day. So today was the day, and boy were they lucky! One of the nicest days they could ask for, and not that cold out either! We arrived just in time for "The Plungers" to register and get lined up for the parade. They were instant celebrities! Who would have thought that putting plungers on your head would make you popular? Everyone wanted to take a picture with them, and they were even up as finalists for best costume! They lost to some guys in a bath tub, but it was all in good fun and for a good cause!

Day 26 - January 26, 2010

Yummy, yummy! It's always a treat when Mom makes her Eclair Cake! I've already asked her to make some for me for Superbowl (so all of you who are attending Superbowl at our place, you have this yummy goodness to look forward to!). It's a very simple cake really - you layer graham crackers (reduced fat) and in between you put a mixture of vanilla pudding and cool whip (all low fat or sugar free). You then put a layer of chocolate on top, made with baking cocoa and some sugar. You chill it until it sets, and then serve!! Oh gosh it's sooo amazing I just HAD to make it the picture of the day when I found out Mom had made some! Aren't you JEALOUS? ;-)

Until Tomorrow,
